Reading @brodyharper 's post on Idol made me think of this

I was reading a great post My American Idol Theory / Justification on Brody's Blog and like Brody, I can count on one hand the episodes of these shows I have watched.

Perhaps some of the first few American Idol shows where they have the really awful stuff perhaps. But that's about it.

One night for some reason Shelley and I tuned in to America's Got Talent and caught this guy.

I wonder what happened to him after that show. Too bad he didn't get picked up by the idol makers.. He was really cool.

@matthew_west has something to say, if you like... you'll love

The other day Matthew West twittered about those CCM music conversion charts with things like if you like Hootie and The Blowfish you'll love Third Day (that was on there... I didn't make that up Mark) or If you like Ricky Martin you'll love The Katinas. (Awesome!).

In any case.... If you are one of the 7 people who still don't have this album.. Now is the time to pick it up for a song (pun intended. Songs on Amazon are around $1.29 per track) !  Matthew West's - Something to Say is on sale today only for $1.99 for download at Amazon.com

The whole flingin' flangin' album!

"So if you like MC Hammer, Weird Al Yankovich, or songs from the Karate Kid movies this is the album for you." - Fan from Ohio who looks very much like Christopher from side3media but is actually someone else*

Matthew West - Something To Say $1.99 at Amazon.com

*Disclaimer: My lawyer tells me that I have to put this here. The actual comparison was if you like Third Eye Blind or Jason Mraz you'll love Matthew West.

Oh yeah FYI.. Lawyers are un-fun.

Beware of Duck Poop

Here is my contribution to Brody Harper's Stats Suck Sunday.

So Shelley (@miche11e) and I were out doing some birthday shopping yesterday (it's her b-day today).

Happy Birthday to my amazing wife!!

  • We stopped for some things at the only Wal-Mart in a 50 mile radius that we have not been in before (big surprise, it looked exactly like the other ones).
  • Shelley did not allow me to get the velcro sneakers once again.
  • Stopped at Starbucks, (for the record I am not a Starbucks fan). I got a Signature Hot Chocolate and Shelley got a White Chocolate something awful.
  • If you combine the Signature Hot Chocolate with the White Chocolate something awful, you get something I would call "Starbucks Classic Feet In a Cup with Cinnamon "
  • Had dinner at Applebee's and Shelley forced me to fill out some raffle thing, made me put my real name and write legibly. Needless to say, I ended up winning a free dinner that night. As it was her birthday she was quite chapped about it.
  • We went to this outlet mall and they have a pond in the center of it. They had signs all around the pond.... All I could think of was "Beware of Ducks Pooping Little Ducks"
  • Yes I am like a 5 yr old at times.

Happy Valentiniversary

Today I have the awesome pleasure of announcing today is my 1st wedding anniversary.

One year ago today Shelley and I took our vows with 20 close friends and family in Las Vegas. Although, I was all about the whole Elvis wedding.. we had a great pastor who performed the service.

For her Valentiniversary gift, I created a coffee table book using Apple's Photo book service of all the photos of us from our first year together.  With this as the dedication:

You are my heart and my inspiration.

You stand behind me and you lead me.

You keep me grounded and watch me fly.

You are everything I could have hoped for and I am proud and honored to be your husband.

Michael Hyatt wrote this morning: What I love about my wife and I thought it would be great if everyone followed his example and let others know what they love about their spouse.

Here's what I love about Michelle :

  1. She sees in me things I don't always see in myself.
  2. She gives me enough rope to fly like a kite but always knows when to bring me in.
  3. She has a great laugh and me being the nutcase I am,  I make her laugh daily.
  4. She is creative. Knitting, Crocheting, if there is a craft she has it down. (Next up is forging metal I think. I need to build a foundry)
  5. She can do anything she puts her mind to.
  6. She cries for others and yet is so strong for herself. She has a great heart for others.
  7. She has quirks about everything and she is the first to admit it. They are all facets to the diamond. I love them all.
  8. She doesn't mind when I wake up at 4:30am to obsess over code or projects but she keeps me from being a workaholic.
  9. She gets completely embarrassed when I do things like this post.
  10. She loves me.
Happy Valentiniversary Michelle.

I love you.

All I want to know is why?

I came across this on CVS's website. Seriously, who comes up with this stuff? I also noticed that you can online get it online which of course means tomorrow I am going to CVS and asking for it at the counter.

This is so.... going to top when I told the woman behind the counter at Borders that my email address was mrsexypants227@aol. Needless to say, I have to wait for Shelley to be with me.

It's moments like this I love being married.

Speaking of which tomorrow is our first wedding anniversary. Yes. I got married on Valentine's day. If you want to say hi to my beautiful bride. She's @miche11e on twitter.

The randomness of Third Day Christmas Offerings in my playlist this morning doesn't seem so random when you leave the house to find this.

What's in a name?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet." - Billy S.

I looked back on a twitter account I had setup in 2007 realized I had made one twitter entry and then never used it again.  I didn't get it.

Perhaps, it was because there really wasn't anyone else was out there, or perhaps it was I didn't know what to say but it just kind of sat there.

In late '07 early '08 I started a blog called lightvox to share with people my love of music as ministry. As I started to scour the internet for information to pull together, I had noticed that a number of the artists that I enjoyed listening to had twitter accounts. I decided to create a new one called @lightvox to be able to follow along and provide "breaking news" from the Christian music industry.

This led to a whole new identity for me but it was only a part of who I am.

My twitter friends grew to some amazing people working in design, music, ministry and other random walks of life. Because of my @replies, recommendations of others or just randomness of my twitters, people found me and added me.

Now I am no twitter rockstar by any means, but as I was reading a blog post by someone that I follow (@maurilio) I realized that I was limiting my online identity to just one aspect of my life (an important part of my life) but limited just the same.

My online identity is the closest to the sum total of whom I am. I share thoughts, pictures, video as an ever-growing collage of, well, me. My online friends, people whom I've only met throught my online persona, often say to me "I feel like I really know you." And, if they follow me on Twitter or Facebook, they probably do. Some might feel I share too much personal information, while others appreciate my transparency. However, my personal brand continues to grow and get exposure to people all over the globe. I could have been "Brazilio" or "LatinMan" if I were using the web for nefarious reasons. - Maurilio Amorim

This post with some additional feedback from some other friends led me to change my @lightvox to @side3 (side3 being a nickname I have had for many years and also the name of my design firm)

I was a little nervous on the impact of changing a name that people knew, had recommended to others and was associated with all my online profiles but I think it is going to be a change for the better.

So with some additional advice from a posterous alltop member, I created this posterous blog to be the conduit, a personal space that links me the person, to my vocation and my passions and I am hoping that you will find this helpful.

Of course... I will still be posting the randomness of things like "Why my wife gets embarrassed when we go shopping in Target" but now, it may not seem as out of place to new people visiting Lightvox.com for information on the Christian music industry.

why my wife gets embarrassed when we shop in Target

Thanks for your reading time,

- Christopher (@side3)

Messing with facial recognition in iLife '09

What is it about facial recognition software that makes it unable to deal with animals?

I understand that it would difficult to pick out 2 kittens from a litter... but, if I have a number of pictures with my pet's face shouldn't it be able to match patterns?

I just think iLife '09 should know that this is Domino or at least default to Kung Fu Panda.
